Monday, April 12, 2010 Education Event: Tour of the Lumenhaus

June 29, 2010 UPDATE!
Virginia Tech Lumenhaus wins international solar house competition
NRVHBA members had a chance to tour the award winning Lumenhaus in April.

Lumenhaus
NRVHBA members had a special opportunity to learn about and tour Virginia Tech’s Lumenhaus, a uniquely designed, built, and operated solar-powered home created by the inter-disciplinary Virginia Tech Solar Decathlon team.

The team received $100,000 funding from the Department of Energy to participate. Each of the 20 university teams’ homes competing in the Solar Decathlon utilized energy-efficient technology and demonstrated that homes powered entirely by the sun do not have to sacrifice modern comforts and aesthetics. Tech’s house will be moving on to compete in the international solar decathlon in Madrid, Spain, in June. To learn more about the project, visit www.lumenhaus.com.
