CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES

Supporting Communities in the New River Valley

Not only does participating in community service make us feel good, but it can also reap public relations benefits for the association. Here are some upcoming opportunities . . .

Check out the "On Your Own" Opportunities here.

NRVHBA donates $155 to the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program, Inc.

MCEAP serves individuals and families in Montgomery County who are in temporary financial crisis and need help obtaining food, clothing, rent, heating, utilities, gasoline, furniture and/or prescription medications. > Read more (PDF)

We need your help! The charitable activities committee will be building a wheel chair ramp for someone in need. We are currently looking for materials, cash donations and volunteers to help build the ramp.

Please take this time to do a little spring cleaning and donate any treated lumber or other items listed on the attached materials list. Please contact me with questions or ideas!

Download Materials list as MS Excel or Materials list as PDF (Right-click to save file)

If you would like to send a monetary donation, please mail to: New River Valley Homebuilders Association, P.O. Box 2010, Christiansburg, VA 24068 on Behalf of the Ella Road RAMP in the memo section.
Help us; we can not make this happen without you!
Thanks,
David Zier

Haiti Relief

The NRVHBA Board of Directors voted today to buy a $1000 Shelter Box, a prefab housing kit donated through Rotary and sent to Haiti as temporary shelter; the $44 collected for Haiti relief at this morning’s breakfast will go to Partners in Health http://www.standwithhaiti.org/haiti.

Magnets & Magazines for the Military

A client of Gay and Neel’s brought to their attention the need for soldiers in Iraq to have refrigerator magnets to put up pictures, etc. of their loved ones. It seems they have all kind of metal surfaces to attach photos of family and home to, but no magnets. The reason magnets are preferred is because tape won’t work. It is so hot that tape supposedly melts! The Executive Board decided that this is something the NRVHBA could support through its charitable activities committee. And as it turns out, Shelia Stump who is on that committee has a relative on active duty over there and is willing to be the person this can be routed through. Shelia also relayed that the soldiers enjoy magazines for down-time entertainment – sports, motocross, outdoors, anything ‘clean’ that a soldier might enjoy. So, at our April 9th dinner meeting, we will be collecting Magnets and Magazines for the Military and Shelia will forward them to soldiers via her step-son in Iraq.

Food Drive

Shelia Stump of the charitable activities committee reported that $360 was raised for the food bank at the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program in the last three months of 2008, and she has a goal of $1500 for this year! So remember your canned food or give a ‘dollar at the door’ at dinner meetings to support this effort.
