Shelter Alternatives, Inc. Achieves First Regional EarthCraft Certification for a Residential Remodel
July 18, 2011 – The design build team of Shelter Alternatives, Inc. in Blacksburg, Virginia has completed the first home renovation in our region to be certified by the EarthCraft Virginia Renovation program. The pilot program, a southeast-regional certification process similar to LEED certification, requires at least a 30% improvement in energy efficiency. The Shelter Alternatives’ remodeling and addition project had an energy efficiency improvement of 54%. The 1950’s-era brick home started with a HERS (Home Energy Rating System) score of 138 and upon completion it achieved a HERS rating of 64, which is 36% better than the current energy code for new homes.
Green Valley Builders Receives Single Family Builder of the Year Award from EarthCraft Virginia
Richmond, VA - March 25, 2011 – GreenValley Builders (GVB) of Blacksburg, Va. received the Single Family Builder of the Year award at the second annual EarthCraft Virginia awards held on March 24 at The Willow Oaks Country Club in Richmond, Va.

Local design/build team received recognition for Earthcraft Platinum level of performance.
January 17, 2011 – Local design/build team Shelter Alternatives has received recognition from Earthcraft Virginia for certification of two recently completed homes in the area, one achieving the highest Earthcraft Platinum level of performance. EarthCraft Virginia is a regional green building certification program endorsed by the Home Builders Association of Virginia.
