NRVHBA Announces 2025 Scholarship Recipients

The New River Valley Home Builders Association (NRVHBA) is excited to share the 2025 recipients of the Whitney Memorial Scholarships and the Capps Home Building Center Rob Prom Memorial Scholarship.

Our Workforce Development Mission

The NRVHBA Workforce Development Committee supports students who want to work in the construction industry. We offer scholarships to help them attend college, trade school, or complete hands-on internships in related fields.

Each year, we invite applications from high school seniors in Montgomery, Giles, Pulaski, Floyd, Wythe, and Carroll Counties. Students in the Towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg, and the City of Radford, can also apply.

Meet This Year’s Scholarship Winners

This year, we had many strong applications. However, three students stood out: Lane Reynolds, Reid McMahan, and Ross McMahan. Their dedication, work experience, and goals impressed our committee.

Lane Reynolds started working with his father’s HVAC business during the COVID-19 pandemic. That hands-on work sparked his interest in electrical systems. He enjoys fixing things and solving problems. Lane plans to study electrical engineering. He hopes to grow his father’s business or start his own one day. The reliable demand for skilled workers makes this path even more appealing to him.

Reid and Ross McMahan, twin brothers, also chose a career in HVAC. They liked the flexibility and steady job opportunities in the field. Both are enrolled in the HVAC program at New River Community College. In the future, they want to open their own business together. Their drive and teamwork make them a great team.

Looking Ahead

We congratulate Lane, Reid, and Ross on this well-deserved honor. These three students represent the future of our industry. We are proud to support them as they continue their education and begin their careers. With hard work and dedication, we know they’ll do great things.
