Building Futures Foundation
Building Futures Foundation is the charitable arm of the New River Valley Home Builders Association, creating opportunity in the New River Valley and surrounding areas by supporting charitable, educational, and community initiatives that expand access to safe and attainable housing, develop the workforce, and strengthen long-term community resilience.
What is Building Futures Foundation?
Building Futures Foundation is a Virginia nonprofit corporation established by the NRVHBA in 2026 to support students, schools, and community programs that strengthen the construction workforce and housing in our region. While NRVHBA serves members through advocacy, education, and industry support, the Foundation focuses on charitable and educational programs that benefit the broader community. The same NRVHBA staff team manages both organizations, so your support of NRVHBA also supports the infrastructure that powers the Foundation’s work.
What Do We Do?
Scholarships
Helping students pursue construction, trades, architecture, engineering, and related fields with financial support
Grants
The Constructing Careers Grant Program provides funding to K–12 schools and CTE programs for tools, equipment, curriculum, and hands-on learning experiences that introduce students to construction careers.
Awareness
Awareness events such as Touch-a-Truck where families can explore construction vehicles, meet industry professionals, and discover opportunities in the trades.
Camps
Launching in 2026, summer camp opportunities will give students hands-on exposure to construction skills, tool safety, and teamwork.
Apprenticeship & Workforce Support
The Building Futures Foundation is also working on developing the framework to help connect students and career changers to earn-while-you-learn pathways with local employers and supporting employers who want to grow their own talent.
Two Organizations. Shared Mission.
The NRVHBA and Building Futures Foundation are closely connected and mutually reinforcing. NRVHBA membership dues fund the staff, office, and systems that support both the association and the Foundation. The Foundation’s charitable dollars then flow directly into scholarships, school grants, and community programs that build the future workforce our members need. By supporting the NRVHBA, you strengthen the infrastructure that makes the Foundation possible. By supporting the Foundation, you invest directly in students, schools, and workforce development.
Ways to Get Involved
Support the Foundation
Gifts to Building Futures Foundation help fund scholarships, school grants, and community programs raising awareness for careers in construction.
Sponsor a Program
Partner with us through program sponsorships, such as named scholarships, Constructing Careers Grants, or Touch-A-Truck, an gain recognition for your company.
Hire or Mentor Students
Serve as a host for job shadows or apprenticeships, and help prepare your future workforce. The Apprenticeship Connections Program is a great place to start.
Share Opportunities
Help us spread the word by sharing Foundation news, scholarship deadlines, and grant opportunities with your networks, schools, and community partners.
Our 501(c)(3) application has been submitted to the IRS and is currently pending; once approved, donations will be tax-deductible retroactive to our March 2026 incorporation date. Donors should consult their tax advisors.
